Environment
From your unique location on the water, you can enjoy the beautiful surroundings while lazing around. If you do want to go out further, there is plenty to discover and explore. De Paardekreek is an excellent base from which to explore Kortgene, the island of Noord-Beveland or the whole of Zeeland. On foot, by bike or by car, everything is close by. Make a combination and take the ferry around the Veerse Meer. The historic towns such as Veere, Middelburg and Zierikzee, as well as the Delta Works, are well worth a visit. The beautiful spacious beaches also await you! We give you an overview of a few possibilities.

Veerse Meer
The Veerse Meer is a water sports paradise for swimming, supping, surfing, sailing and boating.
Head out in a boat and sail past the islands where nature has free rein. If you are very lucky, you will spot a flamingo or other special species. If you sail towards Veere, you will meet fallow deer as well as birds on the Haringvreter. From there, a visit to Veere is also worthwhile.
Of course, you can be active right from your stay, enjoy supping or exploring the area by canoe.

Kortgene
The village of Kortgene is at walking distance from De Paardekreek. A small bustling and cosy village with an artisanal bakery and a Vleesschouwerij, the butcher who still slaughters himself. On Saturdays, there is a small market on the square in front of the church, with fresh fish, vegetables and cheese. And, of course, cosy terraces and good food. The Woongalerij, a surprising home furnishing shop, just drop in.
The 'city walk', which is waiting for you at reception, tells the history of the village.
Walking and cycling to explore the area
The endless island of Noord-Beveland is surrounded by water on all sides. Lake Veere, the Oosterschelde and even a piece of the North Sea. On the shores of the Oosterschelde, you get to know nature, walking across the dikes you see the inlagen on one side and the Oosterschelde on the other. Enjoy the boats passing by, discover a seal, pick up some periwinkle "crumpets" or oysters.
For the sporty cyclist, there is an extensive mountain bike network. The tour starts as early as De Paardekreek. There are 3 different routes linked together. It takes you to surprising places on the island.
Or take advantage of the ferries, a boat crossing from Kortgene to Wolphaartsdijk or from Kamperland to Veere. If you want to go further afield, there are also bicycle-foot ferries elsewhere in Zeeland that will introduce you to the beautiful surroundings in a relaxed manner.

Beaches nearby
Whether the weather is nice or not, a visit to De Paardekreek certainly means visiting one of Zeeland's beautiful beaches. Lazing in the sun, or braving the elements on a nice walk. Culinary discovery
Zeeland has many good-quality restaurants. With 30 mentions in the Michelin Guide, 9 of which with a star, there is plenty of choice.
But you can also enjoy excellent food close by. Both restaurant Rozewied and Iets Anders, both within walking distance of De Paardekreek, guarantee a delicious lunch or dinner.
Or do it yourself, prepare the most delicious dishes using local produce. Visit Seafarm on the Oosterschelde estuary in Kamperland, or Neeltje Jans; fresh from the sea you will find shellfish, including of course the famous Zeeland mussels, or delicious fresh fish. With a little more effort, pick your own shellfish along the shores of Veerse Meer Lake or Oosterschelde.
Go fruit-picking at the Zelfplukkerij in Colijnsplaat, visit one of the farm shops and buy pumpkins or artichokes at the Pompoenwinkel in Geersdijk.
A day in the city
Zeeland has several historic cities. During your stay at De Paardekreek, you will be centrally located in Zeeland to visit one or more towns.
Stroll through Veere, with the Grote Kerk, the Campveersche toren and its location on the Veerse Meer, you can feel the past come alive. The museum de Schotse huizen tells the history of days gone by.
You can taste the history in Middelburg too. Climb the Lange Jan tower and enjoy the view over the city, or board a canal boat. The city centre has cosy little streets, where you will find good food and drinks as well as quaint little shops.
Zierikzee, with its historic harbour and monumental buildings, still has old city gates. The Sint Jacobshofje, formerly the old fish market, the old harbour, and the covered market hall on Dam Square are silent witnesses of the past. Of course, the Dikke Toren is also worth a look; due to lack of money, no further construction took place and it did not become the tallest tower in the country.
Goes is both a historical city and also a pleasant shopping town. The old harbour in the centre, the beautiful churches, and the monumental town hall guarantee a fun day out in the city.
